Notaras, equally proud, sends one of his subordinates to ask for Liakos' sister's hand in marriage. She commits suicide and Liakos swears revenge. In the ensuing conflict, Notaras is wounded and, before dying, admits his love for Liakos' sister, allowing him to marry Fotini.
