The poor man's antics in attempting to relieve himself of his distress are ludicrous and finally result in incurring the wrath of his wife and her mother, who set upon him and beat him until exhausted. To his amazement he discovers that the blows have a salutary effect and he submits to the thrashing. When the women finally leave him alone he arises well pleased, as his affliction has been overcome.

Donald is leading a scout troop consisting of his nephews on a hike in the woods. Donald isn't nearly the expert on the woods that he thinks he is, much to the amusement of the boys. In a bid for sympathy, he douses himself in catsup and fakes injury; the boys bandage him so thoroughly he can't see, and he stumbles into a pot of honey, and is soon getting all too much attention from a bear.

Donald hears a radio philosopher advise to laugh and count ten when he gets angry. He tries it successfully, then settles into his hammock for a nap. Between a caterpillar and the hen chasing it, he's soon tangled up and counting ten again. He also shrugs off a bird using his lemonade as a birdbath, but when a woodpecker attacks his apple tree, burying Donald in apples, he snaps.

So he invents a girl with a romantic suitcase, with whom he supposedly fell in love, and she invents an equally romantic soldier, whom she supposedly likes. At the end of the film, when the lovers meet at the train station, they seem to have been transformed by the cross-pollination of dreams—he is a soldier, and she is leaving for somewhere, and, naturally, when she appears on the platform, she turns out to be the girl from his dreams with a suitcase in her hand.
